Jack's Free Pick Sunday: Detroit Tigers +114

The Detroit Tigers are playing some of their best baseball of the season right now.  They are 4-3 in their last seven games overall while scoring at least 5 runs in all four victories.  They look to sweep the Arizona Diamondbacks, who have lost five straight while scoring a total of 11 runs in the five defeats.

The Tigers have a big advantage on the mound today over the Diamondbacks.  I like what I've seen from Beau Brieske, who has posted a 4.07 ERA and 1.207 WHIP in 11 starts this season.  Brieske is 1-1 with a 2.04 ERA and 1.019 WHIP in his last three starts, which have come against the Blue Jays, Red Sox and Rangers.

Dallas Kuechel will make his first start for the Diamondbacks.  He was a disaster in Chicago, going 2-5 with an 8.16 ERA and 2.156 WHIP in eight starts this season with 20 walks and 20 K's in 32 innings.  This guy is washed up and should not be favored over Brieske and the Tigers today.

Arizona is 2-18 in its last 20 games following two consecutive games where it had 5 or fewer hits.  Detroit is 8-2 in road games vs. a team with a losing record this season.  Bet the Tigers Sunday.

RICKENBACH Free Pick NHL Sunday OVER 6 +112 in Tampa Bay Lightning vs Colorado Avalanche @ 8:15 - Like the fact we have had B2B unders in this series and yet the books have kept the O/U at 6 goals in Game 6. You know this will be a dogfight elimination game from the Bolts perspective and the Avs have been so strong in the offensive zone and piling up huge shot totals. That said, this one should find its way over the total. Free Pick OVER 6 +112 in Tampa Bay

This O/U line has climbed from its opener. It began at nine and then went to 9.5. Now, some shops are offering a 10. I feel that's providing us with solid value. Civale has been better at home than he has been on the road. He's got a 3.94 ERA and 0.937 WHIP in three starts here. Meanwhile, Hill has been much stronger on the road. He's got a 2.67 ERA in his seven road starts, the 'under' going 5-1-1. Consider the Under.

Pirates vs. Rays
Rays

Shane McClanahan for American League Cy Young Award winner? Why not? It's easy to make a case for him. The lefty leads the league with a 1.81 ERA and also has the lowest WHIP at 0.85. He was No. 1 in strikeouts, too, until getting passed by Corbin Burnes, who pitched yesterday.

How are the Pirates going to touch McClanahan? They're not. Pittsburgh has the third-lowest batting average and ranks 28th in runs. One of the Pirates' few respectable run producers, Ke'Bryan Hayes, has missed the last two games due to a shoulder injury.

Pittsburgh has hung in against the Rays losing by only one run during the first two games of this series. I don't see the Pirates keeping this one close, though, with Roansy Contreras going against the dominant McClanahan. Contreras has a 5.30 road ERA. He's surrendered a home run in each of his last three starts.

The Pirates have only one dependable relief pitcher, closer David Bednar. And he failed the Pirates in Saturday's loss. That has to hurt the Pirates' fragile psyche.

Oh, yes, the Pirates are 13-41 the past 54 times they've faced a lefty starter on the road.

There's a chance the Rays get Wander Franco back today, too, from a quad injury that has caused him to miss 23 games.

1* FREE PLAY OVER.

The Stanley Cup Finals opened up with 3 straight "overs," but the last two games have fallen "under" the posted number. Now however I'm anticipating a more wide-open affair here in Game 6, as Tampa once again becomes the aggressor as it tries to push it to a pivotal finale in Colorado. The Avs of course can't sit back and let Tampa dictate the tempo, instead they'll be out to push the pace here as well with the Stanley Cup in the building once again. All in all I believe this faster-paced game will produce A LOT of goals, so I'm going to suggest a second look at the "over" in this one. What about you, defensive affair, or "goal-fest?!"
